CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Minako Aino
Character Canon: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
History: Minako | Sailor Venus | Codename: Sailor V | Season 1 | R | S | SuperS | Stars
AU History:
Minako is the only daughter of a decidedly middle class family in Union. Her father works as a businessman in the commerce area of the business district and her mother does odd jobs and is, for the most part, a homemaker. From an early age, Minako showed that she had a passion and fervor for life--as long as it had as little to do with school as humanly possible. Her grades were passable at best, and, more often than not, she would find herself involved in other things; mostly, she just wanted to be active and, more than that, go outside of Union. Maybe be a ranger? Who knows. Her grades were less than stellar, however, and she would often get scolded for that by her mother, claiming she wouldn't be able to amount to anything if she didn't apply herself more in school, and nuts to that. She wanted to be a famous explorer! Or an idol! Or an explorer idol! You didn't need school for that!
Flitting about and trying all sorts of things--Minako did finally get the chance to leave Union, accompanied by her Sentret, the pair got as far as the Forest Shrine on their own. Encountering an extremely strong Pokemon there, the two were aided by an Espurr, and Minako was awakened to the fact that she was an Enlightened. She also received a strange vision, telling of a time past. In this vision, she saw herself as a soldier, a warrior of love and justice known as Venus, who fought alongside others like herself, along with the Savior, for the salvation of mankind. After heroically sacrificing themselves, humanity was, in part due to their actions, spared so to speak.
Returning to Union after this excursion, she was in some ways changed. The Espurr, which she had named Artemis, followed her, and Minako took it upon herself to fight for peace much like her former self. Going under the alias of "V", she and her Pokemon fought those who would threaten the peace, be they petty thieves or what-have-you, and through this she has gained a bit of notoriety. There is speculation that this "V" person has some affiliation with the Divine Defense Force, as she and her Pokemon wear masks to disguise their identities.
Despite being a fighter for love and justice, Minako still manages to keep something of a normal life. She is still a student, her grades are still less than stellar, and she dreams of a day where she can become famous and revered.
Canon Personality:
Minako is not so much a person as she is an unstoppable force of nature. The self-proclaimed expert on love and beauty, she is the epitome of vivacity, her very essence oozing self-confidence. Much like Usagi, she can come off as a bit of an ditz and an airhead, however, underneath that layer of fluff is the mind and spirit of a warrior, and, when the time calls for it, she can shift gears at the drop of a hat. She has the heart of a teenager and the spirit of a warrior, all wrapped into one girl.Minako is anything but flaky, especially where friends are involved. Her friends and loved ones are her life, and while she doesn't always get along with everyone (people just aggrevate her sometimes, and, to be fair, she can be pretty abrasive at times herself), but she'll at least make an initial effort. Those people who she does call friend, particularly those that she fights beside, get very special and exclusive treatment. She will do anything for you.
Well. Okay, yes and no. Yes, she will do just about anything for you, but Minako is also extremely important. That said, she isn't above going beyond herself in order to try to help others, even those she hardly knows. She is an encouraging force, expecting the best out of everyone and knowing that, in order to get that, some reassurances are needed. You can do it, you can be the awesome person that she thinks you can be, all you need to do is believe in yourself! She does try to see the best side of everyone (even the baddies, sup Mimete), and will try to help in her own way to see to it that that happens.
Being that she is a bit of a whirlwind, Minako likes to get involved in everything, and when she does, there is no happy in-between; it is either all or nothing. Being an idol! Being a sailor soldier! Being a friend! Going on dates! Playing Volleyball!Being the hottest chick you'll ever meet! It's hard to keep up with her at times, and in that sense she can be something like a duck. On the surface, she moves smoothly from place to place, from thing to thing, but this actually takes a lot of effort, work and perserverance. She's not a quitter, unless it's something that directly gets in her way of the next thing, and even then she fights not to give up, often holding on until the last possible moment.
Despite this bubbly, take things as they are personality, Minako does have a bit of darkness there, and holds a bit of guilt, locked away deep, for very few people to see. She resents her inability to change the past in some capacity. The Silver Millennium, while a time marked with peace and prosperity for the solar system, was also a time of weakness on her part. She was not able to fulfill the role of a leader and, instead, let everyone die. She was unable to save the princess she was sworn to protect; unable to save the guardians that fought by her side.
While this is not something that she currently can do anything about, it drives her to be an even stronger warrior. She will not let that happen again, under any circumstances. This is her driving force behind being a sailor senshi, and is often the reason why she can focus in and become quite serious when the need arises. She understands the severity and the gravity of loss, the idea that, if she messes up again--because yes, she feels that her inability to protect her princess was a personal failing, not one of the collective group--that they might not get another chance at this. Every moment of this life is a gift, and this is why she does what she does. This is why she greets life with such exuberance and fervor; they should not have gotten a second chance, and yet here they are. She needs to make the most of it.
AU Deviation:
While her origin story stays relatively true to form, the means at which she becomes Sailor Venus are a bit different, and a few things have been truncated to make more sense in the setting. In Code-name: Sailor V, Minako goes through roughly half of the manga without the context of who she was and what her role was in the Silver Millennium. In this AU, Minako will come in knowing a bit more than the rest of the senshi about their pasts: Namely their deaths. This thrusts her into a more immediately responsible role from the get-go as "V". She does not have a directly antagonistic force to fight, so, instead, she'll directly target those who she believes are upsetting the peace.
Given too that Pokemon are a regular part of society, Minako does not actively fight on her own, which is a big change in character from early canon. While it takes quite some time in OU for her to join the team, AU Minako will be more likely to endear herself to the others, opting to protect them up close instead of from a distance.
Because she was not forced to give anything up to become Sailor Venus (in OU, she is expected to give up her dreams to become both a Volleyball star as well as an idol for the purpose of protecting not only Usagi but the world as a whole), she can be a bit more frivolous and carefree about certain things. She still flits from thing to thing, approaching everything she throws herself at at full strength. She can still be serious to be sure, but this is really only seen in times of trouble, or where she is expected to be strong.
Canon Abilities:
Sailor Venus's power set focuses a lot on light-based attacks, with an underlying theme of love and beauty--this is often invoked in her various attack names. In addition, some of her attacks are associated with various metals, particularly iron; this is perhaps due to the atmospheric composition of her ruling planet. As a sailor senshi, Minako is able to transform, which is how she is able to use these powers.
A link to her various attacks in-canon.
Minako also possesses a few different weapons that she uses in various points during the canon. In Code-name: Sailor V, she uses a Crescent Compact, which allows her to transform and is also used as a weapon (see: Crescent Boomerang). After abandoning the Sailor V persona for Sailor Venus, she wears a chain around her waist. Thought to be a direct nod to the girdle that Aphrodite wears in order to seduce people, this is used for Venus Love-Me Chain and Venus Wink Chain Sword. It is later upgraded to the Love Whip when she becomes Super Sailor Venus; it is used for the two aforementioned attacks, as well as Venus Love and Beauty Shock.
In addition to these, she has a few lesser used items, such as the Microphone of Venus and, more importantly, the Holy Blade. This sword has special significance in the Silver Millennium, as it is the blade that Venus uses to kill Queen Beryl after Serenity and Endymion's deaths. She uses it again in the Dark Kingdom arc (first season) to kill Queen Beryl againcause bitch can't stay down.
Enlightened Abilities:
Minako is a Fairy/Steel type with the Master of Training ability. Generally speaking, her abilities will follow mostly with her Fairy typing, while occasionally dipping into Steel as well as Normal and Psychic, depending.
She will have access to the following abilities in her first form (pre-evolution):
- Sailor V Kick: A very basic kick attack, physical attribute, normal typing.
- Crescent Boomerang: Another basic attack, she throws a crescent-shaped compact at her enemy, steel typing.
- Crescent Beam: A short-range beam of damaging light similar to Psybeam in composition, fairy typing.
- Love Crescent Shower: An area-of-effect beam shower that hits all enemies around it and is slightly more powerful than the original Crescent Beam, fairy typing.
First Evolution: Her appearance will change slightly, causing her to become more radiant and beautiful. Her move set will also grow:
- Love Me Chain: Minako creates a chain of hearts and wraps it around her enemy, fairy typing.
- Rolling Heart Vibration: Minako channels the power of her former self and launches it in the form of a heart at her enemy, fairy typing.
Second Evolution: Becoming something of an entity of love and beauty in the physical world, Minako has a natural glow to her. Her Chain will also be upgraded to the Love Me Chain. She'll add the following moves to her arsenal:
- Wink Chain Sword: Minako creates a metaphysical sword along with her Love Me Chain attack that attacks the enemy, steel typing.
- Love and Beauty Shock: Her ultimate attack, Minako uses the Love Me Chain to do a long range, multiple target attack, fairy typing.
Starter Pokémon: A male Espurr named Artemis and a female Setret named Sunny.
Notes/Special Considerations: Minako will be starting off with a steel-imbued enhanced item called the Crescent Compact.

What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
Artemis, if this is you fishing for complients, it's super lame.
[Sigh and a smile. Okay fine, she'll humor you. Seriously, though, do you have to ask?]
Well, I mean, they do stuff around Union like anyone else, so I guess they have the same role as anyone else. Sunny's been with me for a long time too, so we're more like friends than anything else.
[A beat.]
Don't give me that look, you count in there too!
What do you feel your role in Union is?
As everyone's idol, confidante and expert of love! And fighting crime as V of course!
What do you seek for humanity’s future?
[Why'd he have to get so serious all of a sudden? The mood was contageous, and the blond frowns a little.]
I don't want to repeat the past.
[She doesn't remember much, but there's a lot of pain there, even in the spaces she doesn't remember.]
Obviously I don't think we should be ruled by it, but--mmm--why do you have to kill the mood all of a sudden? I was having a good time! [Wow so rude, Artemis. She was having fun before. Too much serious cat. Espurr noogie time.]
What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
[Again, seriously? SIGH OKAY CAT FINE.]
So we get taught in school that the Savior is the reason that we're here. She has a pretty tragic story, sacrificing herself in the face of the gods to make sure that others live. I don't think anyone should have to sacrifice themselves for others, but if if she did that to make sure that all of us could live to the fullest...
[Is she actually being serious for once?]
Then obviously that means I should eat whatever I want and do what I want and date whoever I want and...
[Nope, spoke too soon.]
What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
Someone who can have fun and let go!
[Fellas? Wink.]
What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
My beauty, my energy, my brain, and how pure I am~
[Minako no]
You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
My wit and my intellect!
[M-mina...]
What? I'm being totally serious here!
What would you say is your greatest duty, and why?
You already know the answer to that!
[Yeah, but humor him.]
I guess finding and protecting the others.
[You guess?]
Well, you didn't exactly give me anything good to go on, Artemis. But I'm their leader apparently, so I have to look out for them, and everyone else in Union too. That's pretty important.
What do you do to ensure we never again awaken the wrath of the gods upon humanity?
I fight for a better future than the one we had in the past. I'll give my all for that.
In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?
Giving up, or hurting others just because you want to.
